Leaf Structure
- Cuticle: Waxy layer that covers the leaves. It protects the plant from water loss
- Epidermis: on top and bottom of the leaf. Lower epidermis has tiny holes called stomata
- Stomata: openings to allow gas exchange
- Guard cells: Cells that surround the stomata. Guard cells control the size of the opening.
- Veins: Bundles of xylem and phloem

Mosses and Liverworts:
No vascular system to transport water. Instead they stay low to the ground and absorb water directly into their cells.
Ferns:
Vascular system. Reproduce using spores. One of the oldest living land plants.
Gymnosperms:
Cone producing plants. Vascular system. Ex: Pine tree (pine CONE). Cones are reproductive cells.
Angiosperms:
Flowering plants. Flowers produce and hold the reproductive cells. Ex: Cherry blossom tree, Roses, Pea plants, strawberry bushes.
