Coldest biome. Climate is extremely dry and cold with long winters and short summers. There is very little precipitation in the Tundra and the soil nutrients are poor resulting in limited plant life. The permafrost, a permanently frozen layer of soil just below the surface, is a defining feature of the Tundra.
The largest land biome. Climate consists of cool long winters and short wet summers. This biome is most well known for it's evergreen trees (gymnosperms).
Also known as a Deciduous Forest after the deciduous trees (trees that lose their leaves... oak, birch, maple) that are prominent in this biome. This biome enjoys all four seasons with moderate temperatures and moderate rainfall.
While there are cold deserts, we are going to focus on the hot deserts. This biome is the driest biome. The climate here is hot and DRY! Plants and animals that live here have specialized adaptations to survive the extreme environment.
Made up of large open grasslands. Limited trees. Wildfires are common in the grasslands. Two main types of grasslands:
Savannah- Hot with a long dry season and short wet season.
Temperate- Hot summers and cold winters.

This biome has the highest BIODIVERSITY of plants and animals! Climate is hot and wet all year. High rainfall and extreme humidity. Vegetation creates canopies with broad leaves shading the forest floor.
